As the economy evolves, it’s essential that business owners understand how these changes affect your teams inside and outside the office. That way, you can respond and adapt accordingly to optimize your recruiting and team member retention process, overall boosting morale, well-being and happiness.

  1. Gamification

Even if you’re adapting to an evolving environment, a job can still feel repetitive to some people. Gamification can excite routine processes, such as making a team trivia game out of best interviewing practices. If you have more time to set aside, hosting a hackathon can build team camaraderie while solving hypothetical or actual problems. For example, here are some ways different large companies have gamified their recruiting process.

  1. Focusing on retention

It is generally more expensive to replace an employee who leaves than it is to invest in your current team, including lifting up struggling team members. A critical factor in retention is providing real-time feedback, which can take place through periodic surveys where team members are free to discuss their challenges, needs, accomplishments and give overall feedback. One software that can help is 15Five, which automatically sends check-ins to your team, where they can also give virtual high-fives to their fellow team members.

  1. More pay transparency

As the world progresses in diversity, inclusion and equality, it makes sense that workers are becoming less accepting of being paid less than their counterparts with similar backgrounds, responsibilities and qualifications. Social media influencers asking strangers to disclose their salaries have been on the rise openly. According to a Glassdoor survey, 70% of workers believe that pay transparency is good for employee satisfaction.

  1. A focus on well-being

A critical part of team member retention is investing in morale, happiness and overall mental health. Aside from pay transparency and periodic check-ins mentioned above, businesses can also invest in mental health-boosting activities, such as yoga sessions, paying for gym memberships and ensuring everyone is paid fairly. Providing a psychologically safe, inclusive workplace is key to a quality experience that’ll keep everyone coming back. Organizations that foster diversity, inclusion, equity and belonging are also 81% more likely to enjoy higher customer satisfaction.

  1. Entering the metaverse

You’ve probably heard of organizations using the metaverse to host virtual meetings, games and other interactions. Even small businesses can take advantage of this as well by hosting recruitment fairs, job interviews, remote onboarding and other team member interactions in the metaverse. The metaverse can lay the ground for immersive remote opportunities that feel more engaging than mere video chats. Colleagues can work together and engage in casual watercooler chat that a remote experience typically doesn’t provide.
